Bali Bans Plastic Bottled Water Starting the 3rd of February, 2025

In an effort to reduce plastic waste, the Bali Provincial Government will enforce a ban on drinking water in plastic packaging starting February 3, 2025. This regulation, outlined in Circular Letter Number 2 of 2025, applies to all regional government agencies, Regional-Owned Enterprises (BUMDs), and schools within Bali. The ban prohibits the use of plastic bottles for drinking water, as well as the provision of food, cakes, and snacks in plastic packaging during official events and meetings. Employees, students, and officials will be required to bring their own drinking bottles, with stainless steel or BPA-free plastic options recommended for sustainability. This move is part of Bali’s ongoing efforts to reduce single-use plastic waste, aligning with the vision of making the island a more environmentally friendly and sustainable tourist destination. Schools are also involved in this initiative, with the goal of educating students on the importance of reducing plastic waste. The Bali Provincial Government expects all related parties to fully support this policy to ensure a greener, more sustainable future for Bali.
