Bali International Triathlon – October 15, 2017

The Bali International Triathlon is an annual sporting event in Bali that first kicked off in 2007, with its main race area around Jimbaran Bay. It then set the momentum, attracting more participants from the world over, becoming one of Bali’s major international sports events, and attracting different title sponsors throughout the span of a decade. Now in its 10th year, the race is on again as the Herbalife Bali International Triathlon, with the motto “Triathlon for the Soul” and is slated to take place on October 15th, 2017, in the coastal resort area of Sanur.

Typically, race day for the Bali International Triathlon’s main Olympic Distance course sees participants gearing up well before daybreak, as they gather for the ocean swim. This year, right after sunrise, they’ll sprint into the waters and stroke the calm waves off the coast of Mertasari Beach for the first 1.5km swim. Back at shore, it’s a quick change into cycling helmets and shoes for the 40km bike race along Sanur’s length of the Ngurah Rai Bypass and into the Ida Bagus Mantra highway, before heading back to the beach transition area to change into running shoes for the 10km road race through Sanur’s streets. All athletes are expected to arrive by October 12 (3 days prior to the Sunday race day). To get acquainted with the track and terrain, a guided bike course tour then ensues the following day, on October 13, together with unique cultural experiences such as Balinese bike blessing ceremonies alongside technical services and bike mechanics at Mertasari Beach.

In addition to the main Olympic distance event, there are fun races that can be joined by all. This includes a Sprint Distance category, with a half-kilometre swim, a 20km bike race and a 5km road race. A 5km Fun Run can also be a great way to shed some sweat together with family and friends.

Registrations can be done via the Bali International Triathlon website: Fees for the international Olympic distance athletes are USD 180 for single participants, and USD 370 for relay teams. Sprint distance fees are USD 150, and USD 315 for relay teams. The 5K Fun Run is USD 12 per participant. If you don’t race and simply wish to witness the action, head down to the exhibition area on Mertasari Beach which showcases interesting sports goods, as well as sales, souvenirs, food and beverages from sponsors, and even massages by leading spa operators.
